Facial wipes are a major problem not only from the harsh chemicals that damage our skin but also for the environment. A report by the Marine Conservation Society found that the number of wet wipes washed up on British beaches had increased by 50% since 2013, with an average of 35 wipes found on a kilometre of beach, that’s a full packet of wipes! This is a serious problem that will only keep getting worse as time goes on. Therefore, our first product on the list is Faith in Nature’s 3-in-1 Facial wipes, these wipes are fragrance free, alcohol free and hypoallergenic. They are also 99% natural and biodegradable meaning they will naturally decompose, unlike other facial wipes, which is great for the environment. If, however you want to stay clear of wipes there is another solution for keeping your face fresh and clean, or for removing your make up after a busy day. Face scrubs and masks are the perfect solution for keeping your face smooth and soft, though it is best to stay clear of any that contain microbeads. Microbeads are tiny balls of plastic used in scrubs as an exfoliant, however they were causing major pollution with between 4.8 and 12,7 million tonnes of plastic entering the ocean each year, according to figures published in the journal Science in 2015. An eco-friendly alternative to the microbeads are face scrubs or masks which use natural products, such as Dr.organic Manuka Honey Face Mask. Though the prices for these individual products may seem a bit pricey for simple everyday products, the overall result of using them will make a drastic impact on the environment. The products will also be more beneficial for the user as they are from natural sources and won’t damage the skin. They also protect animals from being tested on, which is good for both the wellbeing of animals and the environment, as animal testing contributes to air and water pollution. So, though it may cost a little bit more it is worth it, after all you can’t put a price on the planet.
